Welcome back to another exciting term! We have so many amazing excursions planned, and they’re going to be a lot of fun. This term, we’ll have the chance to learn new and interesting things while spending time with our friends. These experiences will help bring our learning to real life in exciting ways. We can’t wait to see where we go and what we celebrate together this term!
Last week, we commemorated Anzac Day. Anzac Day is a special day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand. It’s a time to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of the ANZACs, as well as all the people who have served in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping missions. Each year, we take part in traditions like a moment of silence, listening to the Last Post, and wearing a poppy to show respect.
This year, we also learnt about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who served in the war. One powerful connection from our school is our very own principal, Mrs Cottier, whose great grandfather Samuel Lovett served in the World WAr II. We were very excited and proud to be able to spot his photo at the Melbourne Museum! This helped make our learning feel more real and meaningful.
Last Tuesday, the SLC visited the Melbourne Museum. During our visit, we explored a variety of exhibits where we learned about dinosaurs, living things on Earth, and Australia's First Peoples. One of the highlights was discovering Mrs Cottier’s Aboriginal great grandfather was featured in one of the exhibitions.
On Monday, we attended the Hercules production, and it was an unforgettable experience. The cast brought incredible energy to the performance, and the music made the story come alive. There were many funny and exciting moments, especially with the creative staging and colourful costumes. The actors did a fantastic job of making the characters feel lively and engaging. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable show that left everyone feeling happy and inspired.
This term, we have some fantastic excursions coming up, including camp! Our teachers have organised camp at Golden Valleys in Flinders, and everyone in the SLC are very excited. It’s a new and different location, and from what we’ve seen and heard, it looks amazing. We are all looking forward to the activities, spending time with friends, and making great memories together. It’s sure to be an experience we will never forget.
