Grade 6 Food Technology

Our Grade 6 students have officially embarked on their dedicated Grade 6 Program as they prepare for their transition to high school in 2027! As part of this exciting new chapter students are participating in a range of electives, including Food Technology, designed to develop their independence, confidence and practical skills.
Last week, students explored the importance of personal hygiene and kitchen safety, identified common kitchen utensils and their uses, and learnt how to handle knives safely. They then put their new knowledge into practice by preparing Crunchy Seasoned Baked Potato Wedges, using a recipe from RecipeTin Eats!
It was fantastic to see students developing their cooking skills, working safely and building confidence in the kitchen. We look forward to seeing what our budding chefs create next!
Student reflections:
- One of the hardest parts was definitely getting the measurements precise as there was a wide variety of spices that were used and especially since it was our first time making something as a group, it ended up as quite challenge. Another limitation we faced was the time limit, with the wedges taking 40 minutes to bake, giving us around 10-15 minutes to prepare everything. Despite all the challenges we faced, we managed to make them in time for lunch and make some outstandingly delicious potato wedges. - Ganitha
- My favourite part was eating the food! The wedges were tasty! - Isabella
- It was my first time cooking wedges. They were delicious and fun to make. I enjoyed eating the wedges! - Winnie
- The hardest part was putting the wedges in the oven. I almost burnt myself but I'm fine. The best part was eating all the food! They were very crispy. - Emy
