Grade 4

In Grade 4, we have been working hard across both Literacy and Numeracy, with students building their skills, sharing their thinking and taking on new challenges. Here is a snapshot of what we have been learning.
Literacy | Exploring *His Name Was Walter*
Students are continuing to unpack the novel His Name Was Walter by Emily Rodda. Through our novel study, we are exploring rich and interesting vocabulary, strengthening our understanding of narrative writing, and examining how a well-known author crafts a story in a distinctive way. Students are making connections, discussing the author’s choices and using ideas from the text to support their own writing.
Numeracy | Chance and Division
We have now completed our unit on Chance, and everyone did an amazing job discussing and analysing probability. Students explored how likely events are to occur and practised explaining their thinking using mathematical language.
We are now halfway through our division unit also. Students are learning to connect division with multiplication and are developing strategies to solve problems. We are using the bar model to represent mathematical situations, alongside the UPS/CUBES strategies to help us understand questions, identify important information and work towards accurate solutions.
IMPORTANT REMINDER | GRADE 4 END-OF-YEAR EXCURSION
