 Italian

Prep students have continued to learn with great enthusiasm.  They have been an absolute delight to teach this year and I look forward to continuing our journey together next year. The students have been practising their greetings such as buongiorno and buonasera - good morning and good afternoon. They increasingly respond to simple conversational phrases such as Come ti chiami?  Mi chiamo ….  My name is ….

Prep students love counting to 10 and are always wanting to count up to 20.

Topics covered this semester have been learning to say the names of the  days of the week, colours, months of the year, with a particular focus on their own birthday month, fruits, body parts, shapes, family members and some school items.

Grade 1 students have also been very busy learning and applying their knowledge of the Italian language.  This semester they have been focusing on numbers and counting by 10s to 100, days of the week, months of the year, in particular their birthday  month, colours, shapes and farm animals.  They learned how to sing Old MacDonald in the Italian version, names of some plants and more vocabulary to describe how they are feeling.  Students learned the key words from the story of Jack and the Beanstalk -  Jack e` la pianta Di fagioli and ‘food’ words from the story of The Hungry Caterpillar -    Il Bruco Affamato by Eric Carle.

Grade 2 students enjoy learning Italian.  They have demonstrated their enthusiasm when learning through games and craft activities.  Students loved learning about major landmarks and making The Colosseum, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, a gondola in Venice and drawing The Mona Lisa along with learning about some history attached to this famous painting.  Students have extended their vocabulary on describing their feelings and school items.
