Grade 1

General:

Grade 1 students have made a wonderful start to Term 4 as they prepare for the exciting transition to Grade 2. We have a busy term ahead, with plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and celebrate our achievements. Thank you to our families for supporting Lucky Jar Day. We are sure the stall will be a big hit at our school fete on 6 November!

We also loved seeing students embrace the spirit of our ‘Back in the Day’ day and step back in time together. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a memorable experience. Another highlight to look forward to is our school production on 11 December!

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students have been exploring open-ended tasks and problem-solving activities to consolidate their learning throughout the year. These tasks encourage students to put their mathematical knowledge to the test, try different strategies and recognise that problems can have more than one solution. Students are also developing their confidence in explaining their thinking and sharing how they reached an answer.

English:

In English, students have been exploring procedural writing and how it helps readers follow instructions. We have been focusing on using action verbs to clearly explain what to do at each step. Students are learning the importance of sequencing instructions so that their procedures are clear and easy to follow.

Integrated Studies:

Our unit this term, ‘Connections: Through Generations’, encourages students to explore how life has changed over time. Examining old artefacts and discussing families sparked curiosity about the past. Students have been investigating toys and games from earlier generations and comparing them with those enjoyed today.

A highlight was our ‘Back in the Day’ day, when students stepped back in time to experience aspects of school life from earlier generations. This experience brought our learning to life and encouraged students to consider what has changed and what has stayed the same. Thank you all for making this day an experience to be had

Wellbeing:

Through our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (4Rs) lessons, students have been exploring identity and personal preferences. The message ‘labels are for jars, not people’ encourages students to appreciate individuality and avoid making assumptions about others. In Friendology, our focus is ‘Friendship is Courage’, exploring how being brave can help us build and maintain friendships.
