A Message from the Principal

Dear Families and Friends,
One of the things I enjoy most about working in a school is seeing the growth in our students that cannot always be measured on a report or test result. While academic achievement is important, some of the most significant learning takes place in moments of reflection, challenge and connection with others.
I recently had the privilege of joining our Year 12 students on retreat. With just one term remaining before they complete their schooling, the retreat provided an opportunity for students to step away from the demands of everyday life and reflect on both the journey behind them and the path that lies ahead.
The theme of the retreat was Alpha and Omega — the beginning and the end. As I spent time listening to students share their stories and reflections, I was struck by how fitting this theme was for our first Year 12 cohort. Many of these students were among the first to walk through the gates of Salvado Catholic College and have grown alongside the College itself. Others joined us along the way and have become an important part of our story. Together, they have experienced many milestones and firsts that have helped shape the community we are today.
As they prepare to complete their final term, they stand at both an ending and a beginning. While their time at Salvado is drawing to a close, a new chapter is about to begin. Spending this time with them was a powerful reminder that education is about far more than academic achievement. It is about helping young people discover who they are, who they are called to be, and how they will contribute to the world around them.
I would like to thank the staff who generously gave their time to accompany our students on retreat. Experiences such as these rely on staff who are willing to invest in our young people beyond the classroom, and I am grateful for their commitment and care.
Reflection was also central to an important milestone for our Year 3 students this term as they celebrated the Rite of Reconciliation. This sacrament invites us to pause, acknowledge our mistakes and experience God's forgiveness and love. We congratulate our students on the thoughtful way they prepared for this special occasion with their teachers, Mrs Cook and Miss Baker, and thank our families for the important role they play in supporting their children's faith journey.
Next week, families will receive Semester 1 reports for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Reports provide an opportunity to pause and reflect on the learning that has taken place throughout the semester. While they offer valuable information about achievement and progress, they can also prompt important conversations about effort, growth and future goals. I encourage families to take time to discuss the report with their child, celebrate successes and consider areas for development. The most important question is often not "What did I achieve?" but rather "What can I learn from this and where do I go next?"
I would also like to acknowledge our teaching staff for the care and professionalism that goes into preparing student reports. Behind every report is a significant amount of assessment, feedback and planning, all aimed at supporting each student's growth and learning.
We have also seen students represent the College with pride across a range of activities this term. I would particularly like to acknowledge Kaylee Weaire (Year 6G) for her outstanding achievement in public speaking. After winning the Darling Range Public Speaking Competition, she progressed to the final round at Parliament House, where she was once again successful. Achievements such as these are not simply about the result; they reflect a willingness to step forward, embrace a challenge and make the most of an opportunity.
I also congratulate all students who participated in the ACC Cross Country. Their willingness to challenge themselves, demonstrate resilience and represent the College with pride is something of which they should be proud.
As we move into the holiday break, I hope our students, families and staff find time to rest, recharge and enjoy the company of those around them. Term 2 has been a busy and productive term, and I thank you for the partnership and support you continue to provide to our College community.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 3 on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, as we continue to learn, grow and support one another.
God bless!
Ms Giovanna Fiume
