Prep

Last term, we ended our enquiry unit on Farms with making butter out of cream, and we enjoyed an afternoon snack of warm buttered toast. Did you know cream is made from milk that comes from cows?

This term, we are learning all about Our Community. We were lucky enough to have the local fire brigade visit and talk to us about fire safety. The highlight was, of course, squirting the big hose and seeing the trucks!

Grades 1& 2

Oh no! The chairs in Grade 1 and 2 have QUIT!!

One morning, the Grade 1 and 2 students arrived at their classrooms to find that their chairs had QUIT! The chairs had written a letter to the students, explaining why they had quit and what the students needed to do to get them back. So, the students got to work, writing persuasive letters to convince the chairs to return. Were their letters persuasive enough to work? You’ll have to find a Grade 1 or 2 student and find out!

Grades 3&4

What a fantastic start to Term 3 the Year 3 and 4 students have had!

During the first two weeks of the term, students attended their garden lessons, where they worked alongside Kelly to weed garden beds, hunt for snails and caterpillars, prune plants, and discover hidden gems such as broccoli growing in the garden.

In English, we have begun reading our new class novel, The Wild Robot, and have started exploring persuasive letter writing. 

Students are responding to the prompt: Should our school get a robot or not? They have enjoyed developing arguments and supporting their opinions with convincing reasons.

In Numeracy, students have been focusing on multiplication and division, building their understanding through a range of engaging activities and problem-solving tasks.

Grades 5 & 6

In case you missed it at the end of last term, our Grade 5/6 students celebrated a term of exploring Australian history through the 1800s with a really successful end of term expo. 

Throughout the term, they investigated the impact of British colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the significant changes to Indigenous cultures, communities and ways of life. They also explored life on the Victorian goldfields first-hand during camp at Sovereign Hill and learnt all about the experiences of miners, families, Chinese immigrants and Aboriginal people, as well as the ways the Gold Rush transformed Australia’s population, economy and society. 

To conclude the unit, students completed a creative history project to demonstrate their learning where they chose from a range of formats, including informative posters, podcasts, documentaries, newspaper articles and dioramas.
