Principal's News

Dear SMCM Community, Wominjeka!

Stage 4 Update- Josephite Centre

After two years of planning, on Monday 9th November, Amity Building Company will take possession of the construction site for our Stage 4 building project - the new Josephite Centre and car park. The building works are due for completion September 2027.

As the construction site is established and works progress, there will be some temporary changes to school operations and access to certain areas of the school. We will keep families informed of any changes that may impact students or parents through our newsletter and Compass App.

The first stage of preparation will involve establishing alternative staff parking arrangements. We anticipate that staff will need to park on surrounding streets during the week commencing Monday 9 November, while a temporary parking area is established. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our families and neighbours during this time.

Throughout the construction period, student safety and minimising disruption to daily school operations will remain our highest priorities.

While there may be some temporary inconveniences along the way, we know they will be well worth it when we see our wonderful new facilities come to life! This is an exciting milestone in the continued growth and development of our school and we look forward to sharing the progress with our community.

Learning Conversations

Next week all families have the opportunity to attend Learning Conversations with their child's teacher. These conversations are an opportunity to celebrate students’ academic and social emotional growth and achievements.

The Learning Conversations are a key component of our Assessment & Reporting policy and one way we share learning with parents.

This conversation provides:

  • an ongoing partnership between home and school
  • keeps families informed of student learning progression in line with the Victorian Curriculum
  • an opportunity to discuss academic and social emotional learning and future goals

On Friday 11th December Semester 2 Progression Reports will be published via Compass. This report will show your child’s learning progression against the Victorian Curriculum and Religious Education Framework.

2027 Key Dates

Please see the 'Important Dates' section of today's newsletter for key 2027 dates. This includes the 2027 Term dates, School Closure days and Sacramental dates. Year 4 and 5 camp dates are still to be confirmed.

The 2027 School Closure dates are aligned with Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) 2027 Operations Guidelines and as required, have been submitted and approved by the MACS Executive team.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.
