Week 10 - Holiday Safety
Arriving at School
STUDENTS ARRIVE AFTER 8:30 - THERE IS NO SUPERVISION UNTIL 8:30
Last week, we focused on arriving at school safely and ready to learn:
- Students should arrive at school after 8:30am.
- Students arriving before 8:30am should not be and must go to the school office and sit and wait until supervision begins.
- There is no adult supervision before 8:30am.
- Arriving at the correct time helps keep everyone safe and supervised.
- Once students arrive, they can unpack, get organised and get ready for a great day of learning.
- This links to our PBL expectation Act Safely.
R U OK?
This week we are recognising R U OK? Day and focusing on the importance of checking in with the people around us.
- We are learning that asking “Are you OK?” is a simple way to show someone we care.
- We are practising listening to our friends and giving them our attention.
- We are learning that it is OK to talk about our feelings and ask for help when we need it.
- We are encouraging students to notice when someone might need a friend and to include, support and care for others.
- This connects with our PBL expectations of Respect and Teamwork — looking after each other and helping everyone feel safe, welcome and included.
Let Kids Be Kids 💚
We’re asking our families to help us with two things that are increasingly causing issues for primary-aged children: social media and romantic relationships.
Social media can wait. Primary-aged children are too young for age-restricted social media platforms. Problems that start online at home often arrive at school the next morning and can have a real impact on friendships, learning and wellbeing. Please help us by keeping children off age-restricted social media and keeping an eye on their online activity.
Let them be mates At primary school, we don’t encourage or facilitate boyfriend/girlfriend relationships. We want our students to see each other as friends, classmates and teammates – not love interests. There is plenty of time for that later!
Our focus is on teaching children how to build strong, respectful and healthy friendships with both boys and girls.
Thanks for working with us to let kids be kids and keep their primary school years focused on learning, friendships, fun and belonging.
Student Council
Minister Visits Our Student Council
We were incredibly proud of our Student Council when we recently welcomed Minister for Education and the Arts John-Paul Langbroek to Goondiwindi State School. Our Student Council did a fantastic job welcoming the Minister, explaining the role of Student Council and sharing how they help make our school an even better place. They spoke about having a student voice, organising lunchtime activities, choosing disco themes and songs, and raising money for organisations including The Smith Family.
Students also had the opportunity to ask Minister Langbroek some great questions about education and leadership. When asked about the best part of his job, he shared that it was getting out and visiting GREAT schools like ours. He also reinforced an important message – State schools are great schools.
Our students were confident, respectful and genuinely interested in hearing from the Minister. They represented Gundy State beautifully and demonstrated exactly what student voice and leadership look like.
We couldn't have been prouder of them – another wonderful example of what makes it GREAT at Gundy State!
House News
Bin It to Win It – Week 10! 🗑️Our next House challenge is Bin It to Win It, with students working together to keep our school clean and tidy. Which House will take out the win?
Attendance Award - Term 3 Congratulations Campbell House! 💚Campbell House won the Term 3 Attendance Award! To celebrate, Campbell students will enjoy extra playtime and a Zooper Dooper.
Regular attendance is so important. Being at school every day helps students keep up with their learning, build strong friendships, feel connected to their school community and supports their overall wellbeing.
Every day at school counts! Well done, Campbell!
CHAPPY NEWS
There have been lots of special activities happening around our school recently, with Chappy helping our students celebrate Anti-Bullying Week, Wellbeing Week, Father’s Day and R U OK? Day.
During Anti-Bullying Week, Chappy ran a colouring-in competition, which continued into Wellbeing Week alongside a range of fun wellbeing activities.
Our Preps shared what makes them a star ⭐, Years 1–3 decorated hearts with things they love about life ❤️, and Year 4 students created flowers filled with things they are thankful for. Our Year 5 students took on the challenge of filling their Mentos jar through positive behaviour, earning Keep Cool and Carry On cards along the way. Year 6 students were also recognised for positive behaviour with Smarties and encouraging messages such as, “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”
Chappy also provided a fantastic Father’s Day craft activity, which was enjoyed by many students. This week, the focus turns to R U OK? Day, with students making chatterboxes and continuing conversations about checking in with each other.
There is always something happening with Chappy! A huge thank you for all she does to support, encourage and bring a little extra fun to our school. It just wouldn’t be the same without her!
Operation Christmas Child
Goondiwindi State School is proudly supporting Operation Christmas Child.

Please do not donate food, lollies, liquids, medicines, toothpaste, used items or toy weapons.
