EAL (English as an Additional Language)
Vermont Secondary College
With only one more assessment task left before the exam preparation stage of Year 12 begins, we wish to congratulate ALL our EAL (English as an Additional Language) students on successfully completing Unit 3 and, most recently, impressing the Unit 4 assessors with their oral presentations. Speaking persuasively in front of an audience on a contentious issue in Australian society, using a second or third language, requires many hours of research, scripting and rehearsal.

Several of our VSC Year 12 EAL students therefore sacrificed the beginning of their term break to attend a speech writing workshop to discuss and collaborate with peers and gather the courage to face the assessors in Week 1 of this term. Without exemption, the students demonstrated growth in their confidence, vocabulary, and comprehension of complex issues. All the best for the rest of the year, Team EAL!
