The purpose of traditions

The life of a school is marked by many traditions, milestones and celebrations.

 

Traditions shape our understanding of who we are and point to what is important.

 

Traditions of assemblies, music concerts, sporting events and the giving of awards are all moments embedded in school life that uphold our culture, our values and our mission to serve young people.

 

We point to what is important in these traditions with great care through story and acknowledgement, rather than approaching them with dogma and rhetoric.

 

At GSG we collectively:

  • Acknowledge Country;
  • Sing the National Anthem;
  • Listen to readings from the Bible;
  • Share in prayer;
  • Meet regularly together as a school community;
  • Actively participate in House events;
  • Encourage the living of our values of respect, integrity, courage and compassion;
  • Acknowledge acts of servant leadership;
  • Celebrate arts, music, sporting, academic and service achievements;
  • Celebrate Foundation Day;
  • Attend Field Days; and
  • Much more.

 

Over this week and into next, the school has and will experience a number of very important and meaningful traditions, including:

 

  • An Assembly to celebrate House Wave Awards on Monday;
  • Acknowledging R U OK? Day on Wednesday;
  • Attending the annual Kingfisher Concert on Thursday;
  • Attending the newly refreshed Kingfisher Fair and Open Day on Sunday;
  • Celebrating the biennial Whole School Arts Exhibition 'Our Place' on Sunday; and

  • Commissioning the new Year Twelve Leaders for 2027 on Monday.

     

All of these traditions are significant milestones that we share and celebrate together, marking what is important in the life of our school.

 

I invite all members of the GSG community to take an active role in these traditions as we continue to point to what is important.

 

I look forward to connecting with the whole community at the Kingfisher Fair and Open Day on Sunday.
