Reflection:

The Catholic Church celebrates the Easter season for seven weeks after Easter and concludes this period of celebration with Pentecost Sunday. This year Pentecost Sunday is on June 8. Some of our students, as members of the St Mel’s Parish, will also celebrate their Confirmation and First Eucharist on Pentecost Sunday. During the season of Easter we consider the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for us, his message of ‘love one another as I have loved you’ and ‘Peace I give you, a peace the world cannot give’. At this time we are reminded to ponder on the gifts of the Holy spirit, to be people of a discerning and synodal faith.

As we enter the final weeks of the Easter season consider the gifts of the Holy Spirit in everyone, including yourself, and how you too can show the love and peace of Christ in the world around you each day.

F.I.R.E Carriers

Over the next two weeks some of our F.I.R.E carriers and First Nation students will represent St Anne’s College at several community events. We are grateful for your support as our young people take steps in understanding the history of Australia and how they can participate and lead reconciliation and cultural learning. They are an inspiration and lead toward building a more inclusive and respectful future for all Australians.

Events students will be participating in over the next few weeks include:

  • National Reconciliation Week
  • Sorry Day Commemoration Event – Shepparton
  • Reconciliation Mass – Benalla
  • Cultural Celebration Day – St Anne’s College

Social Justice – Justice Matters Camp, Beechworth

This week Social Justice representatives from Years 9 and 11 took part in the annual Caritas and Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd Justice Matters Camp in Beechworth. Awareness workshops students took part in included Caritas Australia, asylum seekers, human trafficking and slavery, sustainable food, environment, and Indigenous Australia. Social Justice leaders were led in developing their own leadership skills so they can lead their school social justice teams. We look forward to seeing them use their new and refined skills at St Anne’s to raise awareness of social justice issues.

Fundraising and awareness - Term 2

During Term 2 we focus on raising awareness in our community about our First Nations people, their history and current challenges. Term 2 also coincides with National Reconciliation Week from May 25 to June 2, NAIDOC Week on July 6-13, review of our FIRE Carrier Covenant, and our Cultural Celebration Day activities.

Stay tuned for an eventful term ahead at St Anne’s College.

Sacramental Program

Please keep in your prayers our young people from St Mel’s Parish who will be making their First Eucharist and Confirmation on Sunday June 8.

God Bless. Mrs Elizabeth Holligan, Catholic Identity Leader
