Principals' Report
We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work, learn and play. We pay respect to Wurundjeri elders past, present and emerging and extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families of Bimbadeen Heights Primary School.
One of the important responsibilities of every Victorian government school is to reflect on the previous year's achievements, celebrate our successes and identify opportunities for further growth. Annual reporting provides our school community with a transparent overview of how we are progressing against the goals outlined in our School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan, while reinforcing our commitment to continually improving outcomes for every student.
Late last term, we were pleased to present our 2025 Annual Report to School Council. The report highlights the significant work undertaken across our school to strengthen student learning, wellbeing and engagement, while also demonstrating the careful stewardship of our financial resources. While we are proud of the progress we have made, we also recognise that continuous improvement is an ongoing journey. Every year provides new opportunities to reflect, refine our practice and ensure we continue to meet the evolving needs of our students and community.
Throughout 2025, we maintained a strong focus on improving student achievement through evidence-informed teaching practices, targeted literacy and numeracy intervention, and building teacher capability through coaching, mentoring and collaborative professional learning. We were particularly pleased to see 84.8% of students achieving at or above the expected standard in Mathematics, above the state average, while NAPLAN results demonstrated strong learning growth in Reading and Numeracy between Years 3 and 5. These outcomes reflect the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our students and the ongoing partnership we share with our families.
Student wellbeing also remained at the heart of everything we do. During the year, we continued to strengthen our whole-school approach to wellbeing through School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, the Respectful Relationships curriculum, the Berry Street Education Model and the introduction of our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader. We were delighted to see student perceptions of bullying management remain a significant strength for our school, with results exceeding both similar schools and the state average. These outcomes reinforce the importance of creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every child feels connected, valued and ready to learn.
Engagement continues to be another area of strength for Bimbadeen. Our proactive attendance monitoring, student voice initiatives, transition programs and wide range of camps, excursions, incursions and lunchtime clubs all contribute to creating a school where students genuinely want to be. This is reflected in our attendance data, with students averaging fewer absence days than both similar schools and the state average. We know that when students feel connected to their school community, they are more likely to attend, engage and thrive.
Beyond the classroom, 2025 was filled with opportunities for our students, staff and families to come together and celebrate learning and community. Events such as our Book Week Parade, Cross Country, Colour Run, Open Night, Spring Market, Trivia Night and numerous excursions, camps and incursions enriched learning and strengthened the partnerships that make Bimbadeen such a special place. These experiences continue to play an important role in developing confident, resilient and connected young people.
Our Annual Report also demonstrates the school's continued commitment to sound financial management. Careful planning and responsible stewardship of school resources ensured that funding was strategically invested in teaching and learning, wellbeing initiatives, staffing, facilities and programs that directly support improved outcomes for students. Maintaining a strong financial position enables us to continue investing in the priorities that matter most for our school community.
We warmly invite all members of our school community to attend the 2025 Annual Reporting Meeting of School Council, which will be held on Wednesday 19 August at 5:30 pm online, via Webex. During the meeting, Kate Rogers, our School Council President, and I, in my role as Principal and Executive Officer of School Council, will present a summary of School Council's activities and achievements throughout the year, along with the key highlights from our 2025 Annual Report. Meeting information including a Webex link will be published via Sentral next week.

The achievements outlined in this year's report are the result of our collective efforts, and we look forward to continuing our journey of improvement together as we strive to provide the very best opportunities for every child.
