Year 3 News

Welcome to Week 4! Year 3 has enjoyed another action-packed week filled with exciting learning experiences and wonderful achievements.

Crazy Sock Day

On Friday, St Fidelis celebrated Crazy Sock Day! The school yard was filled with a wonderful array of colourful, bright and funny socks as students proudly showed off their creative designs. All funds raised will support communities in Malawi as part of the Socktober mission fundraiser, helping us put kindness and compassion into action.

As readers, we practised performing The Ant Explorer with expression, intonation, appropriate volume and pace, first in pairs and then for the class.

As writers, we innovated on The Ant Explorer, creating imaginative poems featuring exciting new adventures. We experimented with alliteration, vivid imagery and rhyming couplets to bring our poems to life.

As mathematicians, we developed our mapping skills by creating simple maps, designing legends and using positional language to describe the locations of landmarks and symbols in relation to one another.

As inquirers, we have revisited the three levels of government in Australia: federal, state and local. We explored the different services and responsibilities of each level and reflected on why the government is organised in this way to help meet the needs of our communities and country.

As a faith-filled community, we continued our unit Mary, Our Mother and Model of Faith. Through the Scripture story The Wedding at Cana, we explored how Mary showed care and concern for others and demonstrated faith and trust in Jesus. We then sequenced and retold the key events of Jesus’ first miracle.
