Dear SJV Families,

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Term 1.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank the wonderful staff we have here at SJV. I am extremely proud of their dedication and commitment to every student in our school, whether they work directly with them or not. Our staff consistently ensure that all students are provided with the best possible opportunities, truly reflecting our motto, “Every Child, Every Opportunity.” I am deeply grateful for their generosity, positivity, and the ongoing support they show to everyone in our school community. As Principal and a colleague, I feel very fortunate to be part of such a supportive and caring environment.

As this is our final newsletter for the term, I would like, on behalf of all staff at SJV, to wish all families a safe and restful Easter break. May you also find time to reflect on the significance of this special season within our Catholic community.

Year 5/6 - Portsea Camp

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 students who attended the Portsea Camp earlier this week. They were magnificent in the way they represented our school and embraced every aspect of the experience. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to challenge themselves. Most importantly, they thoroughly enjoyed the camp and created many lasting memories.

Camps like this cannot take place without the support and hard work of a number of people. I would like to publicly acknowledge and thank Elise Fisher, Fleur Peppard,  John James, Phil Daidone and Maddy Rogers who and attended the Year 5/6  camp to Portsea. I would also like to thank staff back at school for picking up extra duties and being so accommodating with staffing and timetable changes. As I explained to the Year 5 & 6 students at camp, it takes an effort by the whole school to make a camp happen like this, not just the people who attend.

Anzac Service

The ANZAC Day ceremonies are a special time in the school year and it is very pleasing to see how our children grow in respect and knowledge, each year, of the significance of ANZAC Day.

On Saturday the 25th of April, all students and their families are invited to the Mentone RSL service at Memorial Park commencing at 8.40am. Any students who attend this service are to wear their full school winter uniform. Mrs Evans will be there and will gather the students together as I am attending the official Anzac day march in the city. Please let Mrs Hannan know if you are attending via email, jillian.hannan@sjvparkdale.catholic.edu.au.

Students are to wear Full Summer Uniform on the day of School photos on Wednesday 22nd of April. From Monday 4th May, ALL student must be in FULL WINTER UNIFORM.

Important Reminder - Parking

A friendly reminder to all families that there is no parking permitted outside the portable office space on the street. Parking in this area causes congestion and traffic delays, particularly for those trying to access the car park opposite the school.

We kindly ask all members of our community to be mindful of this and follow the signage to help ensure the safety of all students and a smooth flow of traffic during busy times. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Head Lice

We have had numerous cases of head lice through the school. Could everyone please use the holidays to have a little inspection and treat as needed as we try to break the cycle of this unwanted nuisance.

Building Update

We are pleased to share that significant progress continues on our building works. Structural elements are now clearly taking shape, with steel framing in place. The roof will be installed over the holidays as we ll as other works It is exciting to see the framework of the new spaces emerging and giving a real sense of the final design.

Work is continuing steadily on site, with construction teams focusing on completing the main structure before moving on to the next stages. We look forward to sharing further updates as the development progresses.

Reminders

The next Newsletter will be shared on Thursday 30th of April

  • The next school assembly will be on Friday 24th of April @ 3pm in the MPR

  • Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

  • Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

  • Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.

Regards
