Year 7 Maths, Written by the Year 7's
In Maths, we have been learning about fractions. We utilised our knowledge on fractions in a real-life situation: baking cookies! We were given measurements for an ingredient list that would make 8 chocolate-chip cookies. We then needed to use fraction multiplication to calculate amounts suitable for making 12 cookies. We then doubled those amounts to get a recipe that makes 24 cookies. After we completed our working out, we got to cook the recipe. It was very fun and the result was delicious and scrumptious.
Year 9 Broader Horizons
Over the past 5 weeks, our Year 9 students have been out and about exploring the world of work through a series of hands-on industry immersions with local businesses. It’s been all about getting out of the classroom, getting stuck in, and discovering what the future could look like!
The journey kicked off at Dirt Fabrications, where students rolled up their sleeves in a real engineering workshop. They tried their hand at cutting, folding, and welding, and got a real taste of the skill, precision, and creativity that goes into metalwork and fabrication.
Next stop was Shine Bright, where students stepped into the world of early childhood education. From spending time with 3 and 4-year-old kinder students to visiting the daycare room, they experienced first-hand the energy, patience, and care it takes to work with young children.
At North West Ag Solutions, students explored how agriculture supports local farming communities. They checked out products and services, toured the retail space, and even took part in egg testing - learning just how many moving parts keep the agricultural industry running smoothly.
The experience continued at Gunyah Blooms, where students got their hands dirty (in the best way!) learning about horticulture. They discovered how plants are grown and cared for, and how sustainability and environmental science are put into practice every day.
At Teys Feedlot, students gained a behind-the-scenes look at the cattle industry. They followed the journey of cattle through the feedlot system, learning about animal care, feed preparation, waste management, and the wide range of careers involved in the industry.
The trade world came alive at Holmes-Brown Flooring and Window Coverings, where students learned how flooring and window furnishings are measured, prepared, and installed. They also discovered the many skilled roles behind the scenes that make these projects possible.
Finally, at North Central Smash Repairs, students stepped into the automotive repair industry. From panel beating to spray painting and detailing, they saw how damaged vehicles are transformed back to looking their best.
These immersive experiences have helped students make real connections between classroom learning and the workplace, while sparking ideas about future career pathways across engineering, education, agriculture, horticulture, trades, automotive, and community services.
