Year 7 Entrepreneur Guest Speakers
Last week, the Year 7 students were fortunate to hear from two Entrepreneur Guest Speakers, Amanda Le (Sugar Sugar Cake School) and old scholar Daniel Loechel (Let’s Talk Motorsport). Both business owners discussed their respective journeys and the joys and challenges of being an entrepreneur. The students then had an opportunity to ask some more probing questions about the businesses. Although very different in nature and industry, both presenters were able to shed light on the processes involved in establishing and managing growing businesses and the students gained significant insight into the world of entrepreneurship. We are extremely grateful to Daniel and Amanda for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and share their experiences with our Year 7 students.

Industry Professional: Drama Workshop
Our Year 10–12 Drama students recently had the exciting opportunity to work with industry professional Eliza Lovell in a practical and engaging theatre workshop exploring the power of performance beyond the classroom.
As an experienced actor, director, community arts practitioner and intimacy coordinator, Eliza shared insights into her professional journey and the diverse pathways available within the performing arts. This gave students an invaluable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-world industry practice and consider where their Drama skills could take them beyond school.
A key focus of the workshop was exploring theatre as a tool for social change, drawing upon the methodologies of Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal and his Theatre of the Oppressed. Through creative and interactive activities, students explored ideas of power, oppression and inequality, considering how theatre can challenge audiences to think differently about the world around them.
One highlight involved analysing Image Theatre through objects. By arranging chairs in different positions, students used critical, creative and analytical thinking to personify the objects and interpret the relationships, power dynamics and meaning communicated through each image.
Most importantly, the students had an incredible time! The workshop encouraged them to take creative risks, contribute ideas and experiment with new approaches to performance. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic conversations continuing well after the workshop had finished.
A huge thank you to Eliza Lovell for sharing her expertise, creativity and passion with our students and providing such an inspiring experience.

Senior Drama Production: Clue
The Senior Drama class has been working hard, making preparations for the upcoming Senior Drama Production of Clue.
Clueis a play from the 1985 film Clue directed by Jonathon Lynn. The production is a slapstick comedy with laugh out loud moments, and plenty of mysteries at an unusual dinner party with unusual and flamboyant guests.
The senior drama class is across every aspect of the production, from creating costumes and props to managing stage transitions, it's a chance to showcase our creativity, teamwork and dedication both on and off the stage.
The performance dates are:
Thursday 10 September at 6:30pm
Friday 11 September at 7:00pm
And, for the first time since pre covid, the entire stage will be opened! It is not to be missed.

Drag Car Demonstration
As part of my Stage 2 Integrated Learning subject, I chose to explore the niche sport of drag racing.
Because drag racing is a relatively specialised sport, finding meaningful opportunities for community engagement can be challenging. My teacher challenged me to find a way to bring the wider community into my project, which led to the idea of bringing a drag car to the College.
I contacted a friend who is a former Navy captain, an Australian champion in his class and the SA/NT Divisional Director for drag racing. He generously brought his drag car to the College, giving students the opportunity to get up close and learn more about the sport.
During the community involvement event, I interviewed him, discussing the safety features of the car, the different roles involved in drag racing and what it takes to compete at a high level. Students were also treated to a fire-up and a few revs of the engine, providing an exciting first-hand experience of the power and noise of a drag car.
The event was a great way to bring a specialised sport into the College community and share an aspect of drag racing that many students may not have had the opportunity to experience before.
