Interschool 7/8 Basketball

Monday 17th August

Our Year 7/8 boys competed in the interschool basketball competition in week 6. 

Our team featured one bona fide competitive basketball player and six more athletes who were keen to give a red-hot crack for MCC. 

The boys did a tremendous job playing together for the first time. Their opening match against Coomealla ended in a rather unexpected victory: a forfeit after our opponents realised they had to face MCC!

Fresh from their walkover triumph, the fellas faced a highly rated Trinity Lutheran College team. After a slightly leaky opening few minutes, the MCC defence clicked into gear, and the boys outscored their opponents for the remainder of the game, eventually going down by just two goals. 

With confidence, skills, and match awareness growing by the minute, the boys then boldly took on the red-hot competition favourites, Irymple Secondary.  Once again, they competed admirably and showed plenty of fight, but were ultimately outclassed by the eventual tournament winners.

Finishing third in our group, we missed out on finals by just four points. For a group playing together for the very first time, the boys showed fantastic spirit, determination and improvement throughout the day. 

We're proud of each of our athletes who competed on the day, all showing excellent competitiveness and outstanding team-first mentality. Special congratulations to our leading scorer, Levi, and captain Mason!
