What is Problem-Solving Pause?
We are encouraging children to use a problem-solving pause when they face challenges. This simple strategy helps children slow down, think through a situation, and make positive choices rather than reacting straight away.
Our students are learning to:
- Pause – Stop, breathe and take a moment.
- Think – What is the problem? How does it make me feel? What choices do I have?
- Choose – Select the safest, kindest, and most helpful solution.
- Do – Put the plan into action.
Check – Did it work? If not, try another solution or ask for help.
Using a problem-solving pause supports children to build self-control, emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence in managing everyday challenges. It also strengthens their communication and conflict-resolution skills, both in the classroom and on the playground.
