Celebrating St Bernard of Clairvaux

As we prepare to celebrate our school’s feast day, we will be learning about St Bernard of Clairvaux, our patron saint.

St Bernard was born in France in 1090 and devoted his life to prayer, faith and serving others. He founded the monastery of Clairvaux, taught people about God’s love, worked to bring peace and used his gifts to help others. His life reminds us that love is more than something we feel — it is something we put into action.

Our students will explore how St Bernard lived out our school motto, LOVE SERVES, and consider how they can follow his example in their own lives. We will also be celebrating one of the more unusual things St Bernard is known for. He is the patron saint of bees! 

To celebrate this, every student from Prep to Year 6 will create a bee for a whole-school display. Each bee will share an idea about how we can “BEE like St Bernard” by showing love and serving others.

Together, our students will create a wonderful swarm of bees reminding us that every small act of love and service makes a difference.

Wintringham Gilgunya Aged Care

Students from Years 3/4, along with our Faith in Action Leaders, recently visited the residents of Winteringham Gilgunya Aged Care.

It was a wonderful experience for both the students and residents. The students spent time drawing pictures, playing games, chatting with residents and even enjoying a game of pool!

Our students were polite, friendly and caring, and they represented our school beautifully. It was wonderful to see them putting our school motto, Love Serves, into action by giving their time, friendship and kindness to others.

More student volunteers will be joining me this week, and we look forward to continuing these special visits and building connections with the residents.
