Positive Behaviour for Learning

As part of our ongoing commitment to Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), our staff have recently developed several resources to support students in learning, understanding and demonstrating our school values and expected behaviours.
These resources have been created to ensure that behaviour expectations are taught consistently across the school and that students receive support when they need help making positive choices.
Classroom Consequence Wheel
One of the resources we have developed is a Classroom Consequence Wheel. This outlines the graduated steps teachers use when responding to behaviours that do not align with our school values and expected behaviours.
The process begins with reminders and reteaching of the expected behaviour, allowing students opportunities to reflect, reset and make better choices. If a behaviour continues after several reminders and supports, a student may be asked to complete a reflection process in a buddy classroom before returning to learning.
The purpose of this process is not punishment. Instead, it provides students with opportunities to learn from their mistakes, repair relationships and develop greater self-awareness.
Behaviour Response Flowchart
We have also created a Behaviour Response Flowchart that clearly identifies behaviours as either minor or major incidents and outlines the appropriate responses for each. This helps ensure that behaviour is addressed consistently and fairly across the school while maintaining a focus on student learning and wellbeing.
Student Reflection Sheets
To support student growth, we have developed age-appropriate reflection sheets for students in Prep to Year 2 and Years 3 to 6.
Students may complete a reflection sheet if they are working in a buddy classroom following ongoing behaviour concerns or if a major behaviour incident occurs. The reflection process encourages students to think about:
- What happened?
- Which school value or expected behaviour was affected?
- Who may have been impacted by their actions?
- What they can do differently next time?
These reflection sheets are not intended as a punishment. They are designed to help students develop responsibility, empathy and self-regulation skills while supporting positive behaviour choices in the future.
Together, these resources help us create a safe, respectful and supportive learning environment where all students can learn, grow and succeed.
Kind regards
Tom Brophy
