YEAR 6 WATER SAFETY WEEK
Week 3 of this term, the Year 6 students participated in an extremely valuable and educational Water Safety program at Mills Beach.
The students rotated through different activities:
- Using a personal floatation device
- Snorkelling
- Rescues
- Beach Games
- Team Building activities
- Water Skills which included signals and moving through water effectively
- An introduction to CPR
- And Boards.
The program provided students with challenges and experiences which enabled them to develop their:
- team building skills - co-operation, initiative, communication
- and life skills - safety around water, CPR and recreational activities in an aquatic environment
Carnival Day was held on the Friday. Competing for their House, students participated in 5 different activities – Wading, Nipper Boards, PFD, Sprints, Relays and Flags.
A Flag final was run for the Top male and female competitors from each group. Chelsea L won the girls final, whilst Lennon K won the boys.
Just before lunch all students participated in an Iron Nipper which involved a run, board leg, swim with a PFD and then a run to finish.

Icy Poles, a Free Swim and beach cricket concluded the day.
House Carnival Results:
- Murdoch - 75 ½ points
- McClelland - 56 points
- Lindsay - 55 ½ points
- Lloyd - 45 points

DISTRICT SWIM TRIALS
Yesterday, 16 students from Years 4 – 6, had a very early start to the day and participated in the Murdoch District Swimming Trials at the Pines Pool. For some of these students it was their first time competing in a 50 metre outdoor pool. All students were great ambassadors for our school, giving 100% effort and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship at all times.
We will now read out the results and present our swimmers with their ribbons.

Placing either 1st or 2nd in events (in bold), 14 students will now be competing at the Divisional competition on Wednesday 25th March in either individual and/or relay events; we wish them well and look forward to reporting on their achievements.
