Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
We are excited to announce that this Wednesday from 4:30 - 6pm will be our first Fathering Project event for the year. During the afternoon/evening, dads and fatherly figures (or someone special in your child/ren's family) are invited to come along and kick the footy, shoot some hoops and have some fun with a sausage sizzle for all.
During the afternoon, we invite dads and their children to make a print of their hands on the black wall near the front office as a lasting reminder of the strong bond between dads and their kids. Rodney Eade, AFL legend, will be in attendance for a short talk with dads about the importance of being involved. We would love to see as many dads and children as possible.
Parents of students in grades three and five will know that the NAPLAN assessments will be held in March. Students in these year levels have been getting familiar with the assessments recently, and a XUNO message was sent home last week from our assistant principal, Kylie Kennedy, with further details for parents. If you have any particular concerns related to your child undertaking these assessments, please see your child's teacher in the first instance. If you still have queries please talk to Kylie as our NAPLAN coordinator.
One of the students working hard in preparation for NAPLAN is Bielauchai from grade 5. Last week Bielauchai read his story to me and I was so impressed I just had to put it into this edition of the newsletter so everyone can read it. Be sure to turn to the next page to read this most amazing narrative. Well done Bielauchai!
Harmony Week has become a regular on our school's calendar, and with it coming up soon now is the time to find something orange to wear, or prepare those wonderful traditional items of clothing to showcase your family's heritage, costume and tradition. We are looking forward to seeing some dances or performances from right around the world at our assembly on the Monday of Harmony Week. If you are interested in performing, please talk to Stamatia Andreou as she would love to have you on our list of performances.
On Wednesday of Harmony Week students are invited to bring traditional food to share with others. If you are sharing food, please be sure to list all of the ingredients so students with allergies and/or cultural or religious beliefs do not consume foods that are not meant to.
Finally, our first pupil free day for the year is this Friday. As is typically the case, this pupil free day will be followed by a public holiday on Monday giving students a four-day break mid-way through the term. TheirCare will be open on Friday for students requiring supervision, however the school will be closed on the Labour Day public holiday.
Kind regards,
Simon McGlade
Principal
