Junior Sports Report
Kade Stevens - Junior School Sports Coordinator
Welcome to another exciting year at the College! Our sports calendar is packed once again, offering plenty of opportunities for participation and achievement. As always, Term 1 kicks off at full speed with a range of sporting events lined up.
Upcoming Term 1 Events include:
3-6 Swimming Carnival – Monday 16 February
Once again, we will be at the Albury Swim Centre. Details regarding this event will be sent out to families very soon via Consent 2 Go.
CIS Tennis Championships – Monday 23 February
A huge congratulations to Sonny Thorneycroft and Bella Doolan for earning a spot on the RAS tennis team! This talented pair will head to Parramatta on Monday, 24 February, to compete in the CIS Tennis Championships. With the competition always at a high standard, we know they’ll give it their all. Best of luck to Sonny and Bella—we can’t wait to hear about your achievements!
RAS Swimming – Wednesday 4 March
After our Trinity Swimming Carnival, a team of students will be selected to represent the Junior School at the upcoming RAS Swimming Carnival. More information will be released to families after our 3-6 Swimming Carnival.
CIS Basketball Trials – Friday 6 March
These trials will be held in Castle Hill, Sydney. Parents will need to make their own way to/from and organise their own transport for these trials. The CIS are running these trials different this year to previous years. In the past, Trinity have been able to send students as an individual nominee. However, this year, the 9 schools in the RAS (Riverina Association Schools) zone, will be able to enter 1 boys' team and 1 girls' team to trial as a RAS team, rather than an individual nominee. These players will represent RAS in a series of games throughout the day, with a CIS team announced at the end. Please note, to be considered for these trials, your child will have to have played rep basketball. Please read additional information on ‘eligibility for selection’ and ‘criteria for nomination’ for CIS events further below.
Hockey Roadshow Clinics – Monday 23 February to Wednesday 25 February.
Once again, we will have staff from Hockey Albury-Wodonga here at the College to lead all K-6 students through a 30 minute clinic. These clinic will be held on Campus and all equipment will be provided.
CIS Nomination Process
Selection Objective
Trinity Anglican College supports the nomination of students with potential in their chosen sport(s). The College believes that the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) pathway provides an ideal opportunity for high-achieving athletes. Due to the objectives and standard of CIS representative teams, Trinity will only nominate students who have a realistic opportunity to be considered for selection in the respective CIS team.
Eligibility for Selection
Students must be current students of Trinity Anglican College. Students must fall within the age group outlined for each sport. Parents must be prepared to organise the transport and accommodation for their child and pay the nomination fee (which is non-refundable). CIS nominations will be based on clear criteria, which is communicated to all students and parents prior to the nomination date, and once parents/students have initially expressed their interest.
The Junior School Sport Coordinator (Mr Kade Stevens) will make the nomination on the student’s and College’s behalf, with no late entries accepted.
Required Information
Students/Parents are to provide all of the following information, which is required to complete a student’s CIS nomination. This information will also be used to assess the eligibility for nomination:

In the process of assessing your child’s eligibility for nomination, information may be sought by the Junior School Sport Coordinator or from other College staff who have relevant experience and/or knowledge of the student in the nominated sport. If necessary, the College may organise a trial/training session for students prior to nomination.
Criteria for Nomination
Trinity College supports the aims of the CIS by providing a pathway to State and National level competition in a wide variety of sports for students in the independent school sector. The following areas of performance are to be considered:
Skills exhibited by the player
Fitness level exhibited by the player
Performance of the player as a member of a team (sportsmanship/values)
Attitude and behaviour of the player both on and off the court/field
Positions played
Representative experience in the nominated sport(s).
Nomination decisions will be based mainly on performance, however the following will also be considered:
Attendance at competition, training and club/team events (commitment)
Academic commitment
In addition, students:
Will be nominated on their performance, commitment, values and behaviour, not their personal characteristics or attributes.
May be precluded from selection if there is a concern about their ability to compete safely or if their participation poses a risk to others.
Below is a table with some upcoming trial dates. Please note, the CIS website currently has many sports that have not finalised their dates and locations yet. If your sport is missing from the table below, it means there are no detail on the website. I will continue to monitor the CIS website and provide you with an updated table in each newsletter for the remainder of the term.
