Music News – Term 3

What a fantastic start to the term we have had in Music!

A big congratulations to our five new Music Captains: 

Arianna Scarati, Lottie Kallincos, Millie Harrowell, Natan Rubinstein and Tommy Keane.

I’m looking forward to working with them as they share their ideas and help make music fun and inclusive for everyone at RPS. 

Choir begins next Thursday at lunchtime, and everyone is welcome to come along and join in the singing!

Our Foundation students have been exploring music through singing, movement and percussion. They loved bringing A. A. Milne’s poem Happiness to life with instruments and conducting their own musical ensembles.

Years 1 & 2 have been enjoying the marimbas and have started exploring the catchy rhythms of the 12-bar blues.

Years 3 & 4 have made a wonderful start on the recorder. It’s been so rewarding to see their confidence grow as they learn to produce a beautiful sound and begin making music on their own instrument.

Years 5 & 6 have started learning the ukulele and are already making great progress. 

During NAIDOC Week, we also explored the work of First Nations artist William Barak and reflected on what we can learn through music, storytelling and connection to Country.

VISUAL ARTS UPDATE 

It's been a wonderful start to Term 3 in the art room! 

In Week 1, all year levels eased back into art with a collaborative artwork inspired by Takashi Murakami and his iconic flower design. This week, classes have begun diving into their Term 3 projects. 

Foundation students are exploring the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, using his playful Pez Dinosaur as inspiration to create colourful, collaged artworks. 

Grades 1/2 are getting hands-on with texture quilts, using texture plates and rubbings while learning some simple sewing techniques along the way. 

Grades 3/4 are hard at work finishing their Ugly Dolls and can't wait to bring them home soon to show off their efforts. 

Meanwhile, Grades 5/6 are studying the golden artworks of Gustav Klimt, using paper-mâché to craft decorative bowls featuring swirling, golden patterns.
