A big welcome back to all our families. I trust that everyone had a restful and relaxing mid-year break and have returned to school ready for the final flourish of the winter season.
Over the holidays we have been blessed with a number of sporting events to watch and engage in. From Wimbledon to the Tour de France and of course the World Cup, there have been many amazing feats of skill to watch and learn from. This Thursday we are blessed with the commencement of the Commonwealth Games as the last major sporting event in the line-up.
Regardless of your interest in sport, there have been some outstanding performances. What has stood out to me is the pride and dedication shown by all athletes and teams. What has led to their success is the ability to play ‘their way’. Not being pushed into a different style of play and not getting carried away in the moment. Playing to their own plan, controlling themselves and the situations have paved the path to success.
At St Patrick’s College, we have our own style of play and a strong reputation for it. We play hard and fast and are physical on the court and field. We support each other and play to the final whistle, no matter what the score. We do this with respect to our opposition and to officials and always keep within the rules. With only three rounds of winter sport remaining, I hope this attitude is carried through by each and every Junior School team and player. Let’s finish the season with strong, positive performances.
Over the last week of Term 2 and throughout the holidays, several boys in the Junior School represented the College in a number of trials. Congratulations to Coby Y and Samuel U of Year 6 for their selection into the CIS Rugby Union Team. Congratulations also to Aston B on his selection to the CIS Football Team.
A few key dates for Term 3:
Final Round of winter sport in the Junior School, Saturday 8 August.
