Assessment Tasks for Semester 2
Welcome back to Term 3. As students prepare for assessment tasks in Semester 2, I would like to remind parents/carers and boys that assessment information for Years 7 to 12 is available on the TASS Parent Lounge and on the relevant CANVAS Year pages for students.
The College’s Assessment Policy clearly outlines the established protocols that govern assessment at the College. I encourage all parents/carers and their sons to familiarise themselves with this policy so that expectations and procedures are well understood.
The College’s Assessment Policy is designed to be fair, consistent and supportive of all students. It helps ensure that every boy has the opportunity to meet the same expectations and that those who consistently do the right thing are appropriately supported. This includes boys who:
apply themselves diligently to all set tasks
familiarise themselves with the academic expectations of the College
follow all examination/assessment rules
submit their own work by the specified due date
provide advance notice, where possible, of absence from an assessment task
provide appropriate medical documentation immediately upon return to school if work has not been submitted by the due date
discuss the result of a task with the relevant teacher at the time the task is returned.
Boys who are absent on the day an assessment task is due are expected to submit the task on the day they return to school.
Parents/carers are also reminded that College Reception is not a designated place for submitting assessment tasks. If parents/carers need to submit a task on behalf of their son, they are asked to contact the relevant teacher or Head of Faculty in advance so that a mutually convenient arrangement can be made.

Artmaking Program - National Art School
On Sunday 21 June and Monday 22 June, the Year 11 Visual Arts class, comprising 11 students, attended a two-day intensive artmaking program at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. Led by practicing professionals, the workshops provided valuable skill development across a range of media while giving students an insight into studying Fine Arts at a tertiary level.
Students began with a life drawing workshop using a live model, building on their classroom study of the human form, observational drawing, and foreshortening. They then transformed their drawings into three-dimensional cardboard sculptures, developing an understanding of the figure as a form that exists in space that must be viewed from multiple perspectives. On the second day, students learnt metal plate engraving and printmaking techniques, combining art and science through a highly technical process that involved etching designs and dipping in an acid bath before inking the plates to create monoprints.
The program aimed to build students’ confidence by exposing them to new techniques and professional approaches beyond the College environment. By fostering independence and artistic growth, it helped prepare students for the challenges of creating a Major Work in their HSC year. Overall, the experience was highly successful, keeping students engaged while further developing their passion for Visual Arts.
