Jessica Watts 'Pretty Boy Margaret'
The Grade 5 and 6 students have all started the term by investigating the Element of Value. The value element in art refers to how light or dark a colour appears. Differences in value are called contrast, hues that have white added to them are called ‘tints’ and when black is added it is called a shade. Jessica Watts is an Australian artist who uses Value in her ‘Pretty Boy’ series of budgerigars. Inspired by Jessica, the students painted a hue in different tints and shades and used these colours to make the beautiful feathers on their bird. Patterns were painted on the budgie with black acrylic paint.
