SSV Track & Field State Championships
On Monday 21st October BHS took a bus and many parents drove students to the SSV Track & Field State Championships at the Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park, Melbourne. The school had 10 students competing in individual events, along with 6 other students who were part of 3 relay teams the school had qualified.
It was a glorious summer day with little to no breeze which created perfect conditions for all events.
At the end of the extremely long program the school won 9 individual medals and 8 relay medals, for a total of 17 medals! This amazing haul of medals resulted in the school finishing in 9th place overall out of over 300 other schools!

SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Cricket
On Tuesday 22nd BHS took 4 teams (Year 8 Girls, Year 8 Boys, Year 7 Girls, Year 7 Boys)
to the SSV Eureka Year 7 & 8 Cricket at Vic Park.
It was a splendid sunny October day which was perfect for all things cricket. The Year 8 Boys had 3 matches against Mount Clear College (3-66 v 7-17), Phoenix Secondary College (3-66 v 5-58) & Beaufort Secondary College (0-51 v 7-28). 3 wins meant the Year 8 Boys had won the competition. The Year 7 Boys had 2 matches against Phoenix Secondary College (0-16 v 10-15) & Mount Clear College (0-73 v 7-28). 2 wins meant the Year 7 Boys had won the competition.
The Year 7 and Year 8 girls teams both played a modified version of cricket called Super 8’s which allowed them all the opportunity to bat, bowl and wicket keep. The Year 8 Girls had 3 matches against Beaufort Secondary College (2-95 v 4-65), Mount Clear College (3-68 v 1-69) & Phoenix Secondary College (9-93 v 6-100). The team finished up with 1 win and 2 very narrow loses to finish in 3rd place. Coach Rob Simmonds suggested that both of the matches against MCC and PSC could have easily swung in the way of BHS if it wasn’t for some poor decision making towards the end of both innings. The Year 7 Girls only had 1 match against Mount Clear College (11-91 v 5-145). Unfortunately, they were comprehensively beaten by a much more experienced MCC team. Coach Deb Hutchinson indicated putting the result aside all the girls had a great time experiencing all the elements of cricket.

SSV Greater Western Region Year 7 & 8 Boys Cricket
On Tuesday 29th October BHS returned to Vic Park for the SSV Greater Western Region Year 7 & 8 Boys Cricket.
It was a very cold start to the day but eventually the sun came out. With the early start of 9am some of the teams would have left before 7am to make the start time, lucky for us it was just a walk across the road!
The Year 8 Boys had 3 matches against Horsham College (7-72 v 6-73), Trinity College (8-42 v 1-42) and Emmanuel College (6-52 v 1-54). Unfortunately, the boys were unable to secure a win against some strong opposition. The team had finished in 4th place for the competition.
The Year 7 Boys had 4 matches against Trinity College (6-36 v 6-36) and Mercy Regional College (1-46 v 5-42), St Brigids College (1-65 v 1-63) and Emmanuel College (8-38 v 2-65). 2 wins and 1 draw was enough for the Year 7 Boys to finish runner up in the competition behind Emmanuel College who were by far the best team on the day. The team will be looking to go one better next year in the Year 8 Boys competition.
Students involved:
Year 8 Boys: Muhammad Aoun, Hugh Compton, Alby Davies, Harry Drain, Harry Harrison, Liam Humphries, Jaxon Maggi, Jackson Moneghetti, Jake O’Rouke, Rock Roberts, Bourne Sri Dargon

SSV Eureka Primary School Cricket Helpers
On Wednesday 30th October a group of 16 Ballarat High School students attend the SSV Eureka Primary School Cricket carnival at the Alfredton Reserve.
BHS was pivotal to the overall implementation of the event providing most of the umpires and all the scorers! It is always a great way for the students to give back to the wider school community while also demonstrating the high calibre of student that we have here at Ballarat High School.
Event convener Gary Wakeling was full of praise for the BHS students and their conduct on the day. He is looking forward to hopefully having our students back at the event next year.
Students involved: George Bishop, Floyd Brooks, Nayte Givvens, Kate Hardacre, Liam Humphries, Sam Kendrick, Jackson Moneghetti, Jackson Obrien, Levi Payne, Oliver Ridley, Rock Roberts, Fletcher Smith, Hunter Stevenson, Isabelle Strawhorn, James Triantafyllopoulos
