Parent / Carer Opinion Survey Now Open

At Craigieburn Primary School, we deeply value the opinions and insights of our school community. Constructive feedback from our families provides us with a crucial avenue to better understand our community’s needs and continuously enhance the learning experiences and climate for all our students.

On Wednesday 19th August, an email was sent out to all families—one per household—containing a unique access code to complete the annual Victorian Department of Education Parent / Carer Opinion Survey.

This survey is a vital data-informed tool conducted during Term 3. It gives our leadership team key insights into family perceptions regarding school climate, student engagement, teaching quality, and wellbeing. Your voice directly shapes our ongoing School Strategic Plan, Annual Implementation Planning, and broader community engagement initiatives.

School Facilities Update: Rolling Facilities Evaluation & Five-Year Planning

Auditing and evaluating the physical environment plays a central role in our five-year forward planning of attending to the physical environment, ensuring our assets, grounds, and infrastructure directly support a safe, well-resourced learning space for all students.

The Rolling Evaluation Process from the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) was delayed until 2024, with the assessors from Macutex conducting our official site evaluation on 26th and 27th March 2026.

Upon reviewing the resulting Condition Assessment Report, school leadership immediately advocated for our community. The original report failed to reflect three essential infrastructure areas that we felt the Department needed to prioritise and fund urgently:

Artificial Grass Surfaces: The synthetic turf across the school is heavily worn and leads to water pooling, creating a safety hazard for students. Following our feedback, the VSBA has committed to treating this as a priority issue and remediating the surfaces.
Main Male and Female Toilets: We pushed for significant improvements to these facilities. The VSBA has now acknowledged that specific elements—including the ceilings, flooring, and carpentry—are not up to standard and has committed to upgrading them.
Grounds Between the Gym and Portable Toilets: While the VSBA initially stated they could not address this under a "landscaping" classification, they have agreed to tackle it as a drainage issue. They have committed to exploring comprehensive drainage improvements for this zone and other affected areas across the site.

Following these consultations between school leadership and the VSBA, the report was formally updated before receiving final endorsement. On 28th July 2026, leadership met with the Department to draft our School Maintenance Plan (SMP)—our strategic roadmap for the next five years—which has now been approved.

Funding Responsibilities: Priority 1 and Priority 2 items are classified as urgent OHS and structural priorities and will be funded directly by the VSBA. We expect final funding allocations in the coming months. Priority 3 and 4 items will be managed and delivered progressively through our localised school maintenance budget over the five-year cycle. Additionally, 48 outstanding defects carried over from Cycle 1 will automatically integrate into our updated SMP.

Our focus now shifts to maintaining ongoing, direct communication with the VSBA. School leadership will ensure these key identified priorities remain active with the Department so that funding is allocated and these crucial rectifications are completed within an appropriate, accountable timeframe.

Update on Industrial Action & EBA Offer

Following a recent ballot, Australian Education Union (AEU) members in Victoria have voted to accept the Department of Education's revised Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) offer. Consequently, all industrial action—including work bans and planned stop-work actions—has immediately ceased. The proposed agreement will now progress to the next required phase under the Fair Work Act: a formal vote open to all Victorian government school staff before final implementation.
