Assistant Principals' Report

It has been a wonderful week of community connection and engagement at Whittlesea Primary School. On Tuesday, we welcomed 12 past WPS students from Whittlesea Secondary College, who returned to our school to spend time with our Foundation students to celebrate Book Week. Students from Year 7 through to Year 12 read stories and completed a fish activity aligned to the shortlisted book 'Derek' by Anne Donaldson. It was lovely to see our past students sharing their experiences about their favourite memories from our primary school. These connections provide such a wonderful opportunity for our current students to see where their learning journey can take them, while also giving our former students the chance to reconnect with the school community that helped shape them.
Some of the memorable highlights from our past students included, the F-2 disco and sleepover, athletics day, dressing up for Book Week and 100 Days of School, and being a school leader such as a School, House or SVT Captain. A big thank you to Kristen Jean and the staff from Whittlesea Secondary College for attending and coordinating this visit.

Thank you to Isaac, Isla, Imogen, Sarah, Charlotte, Margaret, Willow, Keira, Paige, Sophie, Melinda, Indi, Ruby, Dash, Levi and Jade for coming along to celebrate Book Week with us.

Today, we were also thrilled to welcome Brett ‘Cardytoons’ Cardwell back to our school for a fantastic day of cartooning! Brett shared his passion, creativity and expertise with our Year 3–6 students and our F–2 SVT students, inspiring students to explore their own ideas through drawing and cartooning. Brett is a talented cartoonist and educator who makes drawing accessible, engaging and lots of fun. Students had the opportunity to learn cartooning techniques, develop characters and bring their ideas to life through simple shapes, expressions and creative storytelling.

It has been fantastic to see our students connecting with our wider community this week, creating authentic opportunities for learning, creativity and connection.

It has been wonderful to see so many students making great progress towards completing the challenge.
The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge closes NEXT Friday, 4 September 2026, so there is still plenty of time for students to continue reading and recording the books they have completed. We encourage families to support their child's reading at home by setting aside time to read together each day and ensuring completed books are added to their Reading Challenge record.

Congratulations to all of our F-2 students who have already completed the challenge, and best of luck to everyone working towards this fantastic achievement!
This will be your final chance for 2026 to order a paver for just $50. Your family can become part of our school's rich history and take pride of place on our Community Wall. If you, a family member or a local business would like to order a paver, you can do so using the QR code on the flyer attached or by following this link.
We look forward to seeing your family's name 'under lights' on our Community Wall.
