As we approach the end of the term, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire Kingswood Primary School community for what has been a fantastic start to 2026. Term 1 has been filled with rich learning experiences and it has been a joy to watch our students develop new connections with their peers and settle into the rhythms of their new year levels. The energy across the school has been one of curiosity and collaboration, setting a wonderful tone for the remainder of the year.
Launching the Number Fluency Program (Term 2)
We are incredibly excited that our whole-school Number Fluency Program will officially launch in every classroom from Prep to Year 6 at the start of Term 2.
As previously shared, this initiative involves a daily, 15-minute "short and sharp" session designed to build "automaticity" in core mathematical skills. By focusing on subitising, place value and multiplicative thinking, we aim to reduce the "cognitive load" on our students. When these foundational skills become second nature, students can dedicate their mental energy to complex problem-solving and higher-order thinking. This program, supported by the research of Dr. Ange Rogers, is a key pillar in our commitment to fostering a Culture of Thinking where every student feels confident and competent in mathematics.
A Collective Effort: NAPLAN 2026
We would like to offer a huge congratulations to all our Year 3 and 5 students, as well as our parents and staff, for the successful completion of the NAPLAN testing period. This was a true testament to the strong partnership between home and school. By working together to ensure students felt prepared, calm and supported, we allowed them to simply focus on doing their best. We are very proud of the resilience our students displayed throughout the testing period.
Looking Ahead: Reporting and Parent-Teacher Interviews
Our focus will soon shift toward reflecting on the progress made throughout the first half of the year:
Term 2 Reports: Staff will be working throughout the term to complete student reports, which will be available to families at the end of Term 2.
Term 3 Interviews: Parent-Teacher interviews will be conducted during the first two weeks of Term 3. These sessions are a vital opportunity to discuss academic performance, social-emotional growth and to align our support for the second half of the year.
Student Excellence: High Abilities and Innovation
We are thrilled to celebrate the continued success of our Student Excellence Program. This year, we have several Year 6 students participating in the Victorian High Abilities Program (VHAP) for English, engaging in high-level extension and deep critical analysis.
In addition, our Year 5 and 6 students have an incredible STEM experience to look forward to in Term 2 at KIOSC. They will participate in the "Sphero Space and Drones on Mars" program, using coding and robotics to solve real-world exploration challenges. This hands-on experience requires students to follow complex technical texts, collaborate and communicate their findings effectively.
We wish everyone a safe and relaxing break over the school holiday period and we look forward to seeing everyone back for an action-packed Term 2!
