Captain's Corner

As we move through 2025, the Gazette team are eager to profile some of our student leaders- Continuing in this edition with our Peer support leaders - Cameron Powell.

G’day! My name is Cameron I am a year 12 student here at Heathmont and I am part of the peer mentoring program.

I'm an 18-year-old student with a love for creativity. I have a dog named Murphy and two cats, Peppa and Charlie. I enjoy working out at the gym and skateboarding on the weekends. I'm also a bit of a nerd I paint and collect Warhammer 40k miniatures and collect vinyl records. My record collection has grown to over 120, though I haven’t counted in a while!

In the future, I hope to join the military. I’ve always had a strong desire to protect and support others, and I see the military as a way to do something meaningful and make a difference in the world. Serving others has always felt like my path.

When I was asked to join the peer mentoring program, I was absolutely thrilled. Helping people through tough times feels like my calling, and now I get to support younger students who might be struggling. I like to think I was chosen because I’m funny, kind, and approachable but people often say it’s because I’m easy to talk to. Either way, I’m excited to be someone others can rely on.
