Reading/Writing:

Students across the Year 3–6 classes have been thoroughly enjoying their novel studies this term, with each class exploring a rich and engaging story. The Grade 3/4A class have continued reading Charlotte’s Web, a timeless tale that has captured their imaginations. The students are connecting with the lovable characters, especially Wilbur and Charlotte, and have been discussing the themes of friendship, loyalty, and kindness.

In Grade 4/5A class, students have been reading RUNT by Craig Silvey and are absolutely loving it. The story has sparked deep conversations about resilience, family, and the importance of staying true to yourself. The students have been eagerly predicting what might happen next and sharing their thoughts about the characters' choices.

Over in Grade 5/6A, the class have just finished reading Black Cockatoo, a powerful story that led to thoughtful discussions around culture, identity, and standing up for what you believe in. They have now begun their next novel, Dirrarn, and are already engaging with the new story and its themes with great interest.

Across the three classes, students have engaged themselves in Character Descriptions, Persuasive Writing and Information Reports based on a wide range of different topics.

Maths:

The Grade 3/4A and Grade 4/5A classes are wrapping up their unit on Addition and Subtraction, where students have been strengthening their mental and written strategies for solving number problems. They are now preparing to begin an exciting new topic on Money, which will involve budgeting, calculating change, and understanding the value of different coins and notes.

Meanwhile, the Grade 5/6A class is completing their learning on Fractions, having explored concepts such as equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering fractions, and simple addition and subtraction of fractions. They are now ready to move on to studying Decimals and Percentages, building on their knowledge of fractions to deepen their understanding of these related concepts.

What's been happening in the past 2 weeks:

On Thursday the 15th of May, Waverley Meadows Primary School participated in Do It For Dolly Day and were able to raise funds for this amazing cause. It was lovely to see all students and staff wearing the colour blue in their clothing.

On Wednesday the 21st of May, Grade 3-6 students participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime for 2025 and read "The Truck Cat." The whole school participated in this amazing activity and it was amazing to see the whole school involved in the reading of this activity.

On Thursday the 22nd of May, the whole school participated in KABOOM Tabloid Sports and had an amazing morning outside on the courts. Grade 3-6 students demonstrated amazing leadership attributes to the younger students at the school.
