Prep to Grade 2:

-Literacy

Prep

Students have continued their Little Learners Love Literacy Journey and have covered the letter 'L' and 'V' this week.

With the support of sentence starters and pictures, the Preps are beginning to write sentences.

Grade 1

Grade 1s have learnt about the /ar/ sound last week including alternative spellings "al' and 'a'. This week We have learnt the /or/ sound including the 'aw', 'ore', 'al', and 'our' spellings.

Grade 2

Over the last 2 weeks, we have been focussing on morphology particularly the -s, -es, -ing, and -er suffixes and the un- prefix, along with the doubling rule & drop the ‘e’ rule.

Writing

We have been continuing to learn about and write procedural texts. Students having been working on a fruit salad procedure, focussing on using a variety of bossy verbs to start their instructions.

Numeracy

Prep

The Preps have continued their subtraction journey by using tens frames to answer questions. It has been wonderful to see the students use hands on materials and show a growing independence for problem solving.

We have been continuing on with our addition and subtraction unit. Students have loved having MathsSeeds back to consolidate their growing skills online.

Special Events

Waverley Meadows Primary School participated in Do It For Dolly Day. Congratulations to the Prep-2 students that raised money for this worthwhile cause.

Prep-2 students enjoyed the National Simultaneous Storytime and listened to "The Truck Cat" on the 21st of May. Everyone should be very proud of their cats and trucks that they have created to celebrate this event.
