Aquaponics - we have fish!

Last week students from Environmental Science released our first batch of silver perch into the aquaponics system. Before their arrival, we tested the temperature, nitrate levels, and dissolved oxygen. These fish are the first of many more to come. Their purpose is to support a sustainable approach to food production: the fish provide nitrogen for the plants to grow, while the plants remove nitrates and return clean water to the fish tank.
