Applied Positive Psychology Update

Year 9 APP:

In Year 9 students participate in APP for one semester and HPE for the second semester. Currently we have half of our Year 9 cohort engaged in APP lessons three times a week. All classes have participated in a variety of units across Semester 1 focused on facilitating experiential learning activities where students are engaged, active, and have the opportunity to develop their personal and social capabilities and practice the skills of positive psychology. In Week 6 we are moving into our Wilderness Survival unit that is important as we build towards Year 9 camp in Week 7 of Term 3. Students learn skills required to survive in a bush environment with minimal supplies and this scenario also provides an interesting backdrop to explore the research and up to date information on hope theory.

In Term 3 we will begin our Wilderness Survival unit with the students who are participating in APP for Semester 2. This ensures that all of our students are prepared and ready for Year 9 camp.

Year 9 Camp this year will take place at QCCC Noosa on Wednesday 21st – Friday 23rd August. Information and forms will be available soon.

Year 9 Rites of Passage Pilot Program 2024

Year 10 APP:

Our Year 10 students are currently working with their teachers to start building the foundations of their SET Plans. Students spend time in class grappling with how meaning and purpose play a role in their world now and into the future, and what kind of life they would like to build as they finish high school. We encourage you to have conversations at home with your students and to look out for information from Mr Ashton and the Senior Schooling team around plans and processes for SET Plans later in the year.

National Consistent Collection of Data 2024

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

Year of schooling
Category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
Level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive

This information assists schools to:

Formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
onsider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.
