School Council Update

Grand Prix access changes – community feedback – feedback closes 11th August 2025

The Victorian Government is progressing amendments to the Australian Grands Prix Act 1994 (the Act). The amendments are:

1.     Extend the race period for parts of Albert Park from 7 days to up to 21 days, with options for public and tenant access to Albert Park during this time

  • parts of Albert Park will be closed to the public for up to 21 days
  • most sporting club tenants and businesses can still access Albert Park for the additional (up to) 14 days through special arrangements with the AGPC
  • some businesses and sports clubs near Albert Park Lake will close for the additional (up to) 14 days.

2.     Address changes in Australian Grand Prix Corporation’s (AGPC’s) insignia and intellectual property

3.     Increase the legislated payment to Parks Victoria (PV)

4.     Enable AGPC to host non-motor sport events

5.     Improve corporate governance settings.

Under these proposed amendments, there will be no further impact on South Melbourne Park Primary School’s operations. The school’s access arrangements will remain largely consistent with those in place for the 2025 Grand Prix.

More information about the extended race period and the other amendments are available at https://engage.vic.gov.au/the-australian-grands-prix-amendment-bill-2025, where you are also invited to provide feedback on the Bill’s impacts.
