NAIDOC Week:
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme was The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. NAIDOC week runs 6-13 July 2025. In Art, Ms. Obushak and Ms. Michael worked with our students to create the beautiful display you see below of this year’s NAIDOC week them in the corridor of the admin building.
Koorie Morning Tea:
We are also excited to share that on Friday, 29 August from 9-10am, we will be hosting a Koorie morning tea for families. Our KESO (Koorie Education Support Officer), John Murray, will be joining us for a conversation as to how we, as a community, can look to create a safe space at our school for our Koorie students. While our Koorie population at school is a small one, we would welcome any families interested in helping us to develop this idea further through a cuppa and a chat. Happy for you to grab me on the gate in the morning if you have questions.
School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS):
This term we are spending alternate fortnights focusing on our new school values in turn: Be Kind, Be Responsible and Be an Active Learner. The next two weeks will be focused on Be Kind. There are many ways to be kind: use kind words, use a kind tone, share with someone, celebrate someone else’s success, assume positive intent, to name just a few ways. Our students will be caught being kind over the next fortnight with a view to have this recognised in our new Value Recognition Slips and our updated Student Value Awards. The recognition slips will be handed out by teachers, ES, and SRC to students who are overwhelmingly demonstrating the value of Be Kind. These slips then go back to classrooms where teachers will award 5 values points. At our next assembly, some of these slips will be read out and many of them will go on a board in the office to show how South Melbourne Park is kind. We are still after a few shoeboxes so that each of our classes has a box to decorate and collect their Values Recognition Slips in. We thank those of you who have already donated shoeboxes and would still appreciate any extra you could spare to be dropped off at the office.
Bike Cage:
At the end of term 2 there were many scooters left on-site. These scooters were moved into the back of the bike cage to be secured over the holidays. If you are missing a scooter, please collect it and take it home.
