Great Book Swap

In week 7, we will be doing the Great Book Swap instead of the book fair. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Home Inquiry

This week your child received a question sheet. There are several questions to ask their grandparents about their life as a child. We ask that you assist them in recording the information on the sheet to complete the next part of their learning. We require these back by the start of week 3 (Monday 3rd August).

Reading: We encourage your child to read every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. Once you have read the ‘decodable book’ 2 or 3 times, please send it back with the recording sheet.

The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Christian Studies

We have continued to explore the story of creation and what responsibility is. We are continuing to delve into the Bible and explore different Bible stories about responsibility.

Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop:

As readers, students are exploring the features and layouts of pages. This includes both fiction and non-fiction texts.

As authors, students are transferring this information onto a poster to showcase their knowledge of past and present.

The classes are undertaking the Premier’s Reading Challenge and the Premier’s Be Active Challenge together. Once completed, students will receive a certificate or medal at Assembly next term.

Mathematics:

We are continuing to consolidate our place value knowledge into the hundreds (yr 1) and thousands (yr 2).

We are exploring maps and positional language related to using maps and pathways.

Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time

Students are consolidating their understanding and diving deeper into one focus area of the past and present. They will be exploring what is similar and different and giving explanations as to why this could be.  These will be presented to the class as an oral presentation in week 4.
