A message from the Principal

It seems hard to believe that we are only just into the second term of the school year and yet we have already begun meeting with families and accepting enrolments for our 2027 Foundation students. Time moves quickly in schools and, before we know it, we will be welcoming another group of young learners through the gates of SKiPPS.
These enrolment tours are always a wonderful reminder of just how special our school is. One of the greatest strengths of St Kilda Park Primary School has always been our community and the unique climate and culture that families feel when they walk through our gates. The warmth, creativity, inclusivity and sense of connection that define SKiPPS are things that our staff, students and families should all feel incredibly proud of.
What has been especially exciting over the past couple of years is seeing this wonderful culture paired with stronger and stronger teaching and learning practices across the school. The enormous amount of work undertaken by staff to strengthen curriculum, improve consistency and embed evidence-based teaching approaches is having a profound impact in classrooms every single day.
Our focus on explicit instruction, clear and structured teaching, and the implementation of systematic synthetic phonics and structured literacy approaches means that students are making outstanding progress in their learning. Staff have worked incredibly hard to refine practice, build their knowledge and ensure every child is supported to thrive academically.
Last week we received some initial NAPLAN data from our 2026 tests and, while there is still much more information to come and we are not yet in a position to share the results publicly, we were genuinely astounded by the growth and improvement shown by our students. The scale of the gains in achievement is something that reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the strong partnership we have with families.
All of this means there has truly never been a better time to begin at SKiPPS.
If you have friends, neighbours or relatives looking for an excellent local school for 2027, we would love your help in spreading the word about our school. Please encourage them to come along and see SKiPPS in action. Tour dates and bookings can be found here:
Our regular school tours are now running and provide families with a great opportunity to see our classrooms in action and experience the unique atmosphere of our school firsthand.
We also ask any current SKiPPS families with younger siblings starting Foundation next year to please complete their enrolment paperwork as soon as possible. Early enrolments are extremely helpful in supporting our planning and organisation for the year ahead.
For 2027, all Foundation enrolments are now completed online through the brand new Victorian Government VicStudents portal. Families can access the portal below;
If you require any support registering for the portal or completing the enrolment process, please don’t hesitate to contact Wendy in the office, who will be very happy to assist.
We are incredibly proud of the direction our school is heading and excited about what lies ahead.
