Year 5/6 Camp

Students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Last week, our Year 5/6 students returned from a fantastic week in Canberra. Across the camp, students explored many of the institutions, landmarks and experiences that help shape Australia’s democracy, history and national identity.
Highlights included visits to Parliament House, the High Court, the Electoral Education Centre, the Australian War Memorial, Questacon, the National Gallery and Government House, where students were fortunate enough to meet Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
While the educational experiences were incredibly valuable, the greatest benefits of camp are often the personal ones. Throughout the week, students showed resilience, independence, curiosity and maturity. They supported one another, embraced new challenges and represented SKiPPS with pride wherever they went. It was a pleasure to spend the week with such a wonderful group of young people and to watch their confidence and connections continue to grow throughout the camp experience.
A huge thank you to the staff who gave their time, energy and care to make the camp possible. These experiences create memories and opportunities for growth that stay with students for many years to come.
