Our school facilities - a request from School Council

Dear SKiPPS Community,
Last week’s State Budget included almost $300 million in upgrades for Victorian public schools. While many neighbouring schools received major funding commitments, SKiPPS once again missed out.
This was deeply disappointing.
For more than a year, School Council and staff have been advocating strongly for long overdue upgrades to our facilities. We have met with MPs, written submissions, applied for grants and continued to push the case for investment in our school. While we were unsuccessful this time, our campaign is far from over.
Importantly, there is another opportunity ahead, with further funding announcements expected before the State Election later this year. This gives us a critical window to make our voices heard.
Why does this matter?
Some of our core facilities are no longer fit for purpose.
Our toilets are outdated, lack privacy and do not meet modern accessibility standards. We also lack a suitable indoor space for whole-school assemblies, performances, PE lessons, sport and community events during bad weather. In addition, specialist programs such as Science and Italian currently operate without dedicated classroom spaces.
We are calling on the State Government to fund:
- A new multi-purpose building for assemblies, indoor sport and learning spaces
Modern, accessible and private toilet facilities
How can families help?
Our local MP, Nina Taylor, has advised that community advocacy matters. The more letters sent to decision makers, the stronger the message that SKiPPS deserves investment too.
We encourage every family to get involved.
- Download one of the template letters or write your own
- Send letters to both Nina Taylor and Education Minister Ben Carroll
Encourage grandparents, relatives and friends to do the same
This is an election year. Opportunities like this only come around every four years, and together our community can make a real difference.
