Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2025

This week we have ended our seven week program with 3/4N.  They have come a long way since the beginning of the term and have been flexible with different teachers taking their lessons whilst I was on Long Service Leave.  With the spring weather upon us now, it's been lovely getting into the garden and doing lots of jobs that have been on the list since autumn. These include planting new seedlings and replacing soil in some of the veggie gardens.

In the kitchen, we have been cooking and preparing all our yummy meals to share.  It is lovely to use various vegetables from the garden in our food and promote the growing, harvesting and sharing experience.  Thanks to our volunteers - Frank (Louis’s Dad), Enis (Henry's Dad) and Annie (Teddy’s Mum).   We really appreciate the time you have given us.

After the school holidays we will begin our sessions with 3/4K.  This class will lead us into December so if you are free to help the students, please let me know via Seesaw or at tsiegert@smdingley.catholic.edu.au

Student Reflections:

Mason - Today I made seasonal savory muffins, I started out with getting tasty cheese, then I started to chop the asparagus into about 2 centimetres long.   Then I got a measuring cup and poured self raising flour. Then the others mixed yogurt with eggs and put it in the flour and put cheese in it.  Then I grated cheese and packed up.

Louis - I made couscous and it smelt amazing. We added sultanas, red and green capsicum, and onion.  The dressing smelt a bit weird so I can’t wait until I try it.

Lachlan - Today in SAKGP I and my group. I made veggie stir fry. It was so satisfying to pop the mushrooms stems off. Then I got to rip coriander. It was so slow and boring but I did not mind. I also went to stir it up. I loved the smell.

Giselle - In week 6 I did not garden but I cooked a stir fry. I made it with Lachlan, Teddy. G, Campbell, Sienna and Me

Jacob W - I was in the zucchini group and I had to cut out the carrots.  I cut up some green stuff for the dip  and put lemon in the hummus.

Ava - Today I made couscous with capsicum and lemon juice. We even made salad with onion.

Oliver - Today I made couscous salad. I used capsicum, onion and some other red things. I forgot what it was called but the capsicum was green and red.  I chopped the onions and I started to cry so much I had to cut the green capsicum instead. We also used couscous.

Mahanya - Today I made The Bread with my group. We made asparagus muffins. I chopped the asparagus neatly and focused on my fingers so I didn't get a cut.  I also got to mix a lot of ingredients together like salt, yoghurt, eggs, flour etc. After the class finished cooking I got to wash the dishes.

Archer - Today I made the cous cous salad. I cut onions and I accidently rubbed my eyes. I was crying and my eyes were stinging a lot. After that I rubbed my eyes again. I was so silly. I shouldn't have rubbed my eyes again. I cut capsicum. I think I cut it the best I have ever cut.The salad  had dried tomatoes, lemons and also red and green capsicum.

Jai - I cut a red capsicum for the  couscous salad.  I was in the carrot group.
