MACS Flourishing Learners - Vision for Instruction

Flourishing Learners Conference – Growing Together as a Leading School

Earlier this week, seven of our staff joined thousands of educators from across Melbourne Catholic schools for the very first MACS Flourishing Learners Conference. This dynamic two-day event, held at Marvel Stadium, brought together world-class presenters, thought-provoking conversations, and fresh ideas about teaching, learning, and wellbeing – all designed to empower teachers across our Catholic system to deliver both equity and excellence in education.

It was inspiring to see our school so well-represented, with our staff engaging directly with the best of international and local expertise. Together, they explored the latest in explicit teaching, literacy leadership, curriculum design, and student wellbeing—topics that will continue to shape the way our children learn every day.

Keynote speakers included some of the most influential voices in education today: Professor Dylan Wiliam (UCL Institute of Education), Tom Sherrington (Teaching WalkThrus), and Emina McLean (language and literacy expert). Their presentations, along with contributions from other leading thinkers, highlighted evidence-informed teaching, responsive pedagogy, curriculum design, and strategies to support every learner to thrive.

The conference itself was built around evidence-informed keynotes from global education leaders, interactive workshops that translated research into classroom practice, and rich opportunities for professional dialogue and collaboration across 291 schools.

Our seven staff members returned energised and equipped with new tools and strategies to ensure every learner at our school flourishes. Their insights will ripple through classrooms, strengthening our shared commitment to high-quality Catholic education.

Events like this remind us that flourishing learners are the legacy of inspired educators. We are proud to be part of a system boldly leading the field, united in the belief that every child deserves the very best.
