Well done to our students that involved themselves in a weekly sport this term, it is always great to see students excelling in a weekly sport, while it is just as pleasing to see our students trying a new sport for the first time.  GSV Athletics Championship Carnival

On Wednesday, 23 August, we competed at the GSV Championship Athletics Carnival at Lakeside Athletics track. We had some great individual results, with lots of personal bests and plenty of ribbons across the day. At the conclusion of the event, we placed 6th overall. A special mention to the Junior age group (Year 7&8) who placed 4th overall. We also had 2 students that we selected to compete at the GSV Athletics Finals carnival. Molly R (Year 12) in the 1500m and India S (Year 9) in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, were selected after their results ranked them in the top 10 of all GSV schools.

 GSV Athletics Finals Night

Molly R and India S both competed at the GSV Athletics finals night on Tuesday, 5 September, at Lakeside Athletics track. Molly ran in the Year 12 1500m event and finished 2nd, winning herself a well deserved silver medal. India competed in both the Year 9 Triple Jump and Long Jump events. India finished in 6th place in the Long Jump. Congratulations to both of our students for their outstanding results to finish off the GSV athletics season.

 SYDSA Athletics Carnival

After 5 weeks of training two mornings a week, it was time to put our work to the test against the other SYDSA school at our district athletics carnival at Doncaster Athletics track, on Tuesday, 5 September. At the conclusion of the carnival, we finished 2nd overall, with only a hand full of points separating us and 1st place. We also had some great individual results with lots of ribbons on the day. Over the next week the students that progress through to the Beachside Division Athletics carnival will be announced. I look forward to sharing and celebrating those students in the next newsletter.

Victorian Interschool Snowsports Championship

During the week of 21-27 August our 4 skiers completed in the Victorian Interschool Snowsports Championship at Mt Buller. Peta O (Y4), Tayla B (Y4), Stella M (Y6) and Sarah O (Y9), all enjoyed their experience and battled through some difficult conditions. A special mention to Sarah O, who made Nationals in the Division 2 Giant Slalom event, unfortunately due to poor snow conditions this event has been cancelled. Well done to our Snowsport students and families for their efforts on the mountain.

Australian Cross-Country Championships

On Saturday, 26 August, our Sport Captain, Molly R competed in the Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra. Molly ran an outstanding race, finishing 18th overall and 12th in Australia for the Women’s U20 6km event. The Victoria team, which consisted of the 4 fastest Victorian times won gold for the event.
