Year 12 Media student, Lucas Weston recently won first place in the senior digital category for the 2024 Catholic Young Voice Awards, for his piece, Feed the Little Children.
Around 500 Catholic School Students from Years 5-12 took part in the Young Voice Awards which had the theme, ‘Do good, be good, spread good news’. Organised by the Australian Catholic Magazine and Australian Catholic University, this initiative encourages students to explore the theme of ‘Do good, be good, spread good news’ and leverage various media formats to address pressing social issues.
Lucas’ piece, Feed the Little Children, shed light on the pressing issue of hunger up North in Broome and to raise awareness and support for the not-for-profit agency, Feed the Little Children. Lucas incorporated footage and interviews from his time helping prepare and delivering meals with Feed the Little Children during the 2023 Kimberley Immersion as well as student interviews from other Immersion participants to explore the theme of ‘Do good, be good, spread good news’.
Lucas was also 1 of 24 selected as a finalist for and shortlisted for a Bond University scholarship. Lucas’ last step in the selection process included participating in the Elite Scholarship Selection Weekend, that recently took place at Bond University’s Gold Coast Campus on Saturday, 21 September till Sunday 22 September. Lucas has been offered the Vice Chancellor's Excellence scholarship and is hoping to study Bachelor of Film and Television at Bond in 2025. Congratulations Lucas!
