On Friday, 1C were privileged to be able to share the story of Matilda’s great grandfather who flew Kitty Hawks as a fighter pilot in World War II. Matilda shared a photo of her great grandfather who was at university when he was called up for national service in his early twenties. He went on to become a skilful pilot and was awarded a bravery medal for his service excellence. Matilda’s family have kept his uniforms in pristine condition and the class enjoyed examining the badges, buttons and other insignia on the uniforms. We also discussed all the skills he would have needed to fly a plane, including excellent concentration, team work, map reading and mathematics! A big thank you to Matilda and her whole family for helping us understand ANZAC day so personally.

The Grade 4 students had a fantastic time participating in the Maps and Mayhem incursion. Working in teams, they navigated the school to locate hidden QR codes, using clues to guide their way. Students showed great teamwork and problem-solving skills as they collaborated to solve all 20 challenges.

Our whole school has commenced our term 2 First Nations Incursion, 'The Song Room' project. The purpose of the program is for students to build a shared understanding of First Nations culture by engaging in the seven seasons recognised by the Wurundjeri people. The project will culminate in the creation of a large circular artwork, approximately 2.5 metres in diameter, to be installed on the exterior wall of the art room. The piece will have seven wedges, each representing one of the seven Wurundjeri seasons. We can't wait to see the finished piece!
