The Songroom Project

This term we have indigenous artist Nikki Browne working with the school. Today commenced, with her sharing her culture with our students through story telling and artefacts.

Here's some of what the students found out:

I learnt that Aboriginal people used the boomerang to hunt.

Daniel Year 2

They used animal fur to make footballs.

Arabella Year 2

They used possum fur for babies' nappies.

Tyson Year 4

They can use different animal parts for medicine.

Harry Year 5

Over the coming weeks Nikki will continue to work with the students to build a shared understanding of First Nations culture across the school. By engaging with the seven seasons recognised by the Wurundjeri people, through art activities, the students will develop observation skills and a deeper connection to the natural environment.

The project will culminate in the creation of a large circular artwork. The piece will have seven wedges, each representing one of the seven Wurundjeri seasons, and will incorporate student artwork and accompanying text developed through weekly activities.

Can You Help with Breakfast Club?

We are looking for volunteers to help us with the running of a breakfast club. Having a good breakfast each day is very important for growing bodies and minds. When stomachs are full, children concentrate and learn better.

If you think you could help us for 20 minutes before school on one or more mornings to assist with the set up and handing out of breakfast items, please contact me via email julie.hall2@education.vic.gov.au or come and see me. I'd love to hear from parents, carers, grandparents or anyone else in the wider community who'd like to be a part of setting our students up for success!

Policies, Policies, Policies!

Recently reviewed policies for Anaphylaxis, Asthma and Cash Handling can all be found on the school website. Currently the Policy Sub-Committee of School Council are reviewing the Attendance and Yard Duty & Supervision policies, which you will find below. Community feedback is always welcome.

With that in mind the sub-committee is also looking at the Acceptable Use Agreement used at Toorak Primary School. Below you will find the current agreement which is sent out as a Google Form for families to go through with their children and sign, together with the Department suggested template. I would love to hear your thoughts on both the current agreement and how it might be improved.
