Grade 3 & 4

Term 2- Week 2
We hope everyone had a refreshing and enjoyable break.
As we begin the new term, we are excited to continue building on the strong foundations established in term 1.
Below is a poster the teachers have developed in line with our SMJ's student engagement plan. Last term, there was a weekly focus on what these qualities look, sound, and feel like, and why they are essential to our learning community and school community.
Each week this term, we will celebrate students who show the following qualities and acknowledge this as a whole learning community by displaying them on our interactive boards each day.
Students have begun investigating mathematical concepts such as fractions and decimal fractions, developing their understanding of how these represent parts of a whole and relate to everyday situations. Next week, we will begin studying length and area, where students will explore measurement, compare different units, and apply their knowledge through practical activities.
This term, during Inquiry time, students are exploring Chemical and Physical Science. They have begun investigating forces, heat, and cold, and the effects these have on everyday materials and situations. Students are also developing their scientific thinking by asking questions, making predictions, and observing changes through hands-on investigations.
A reminder for students to read aloud at home at least 3–4 nights each week. This regular practice helps to build reading fluency, speed, and accuracy, and supports overall confidence in reading. Also, homework is sent home every Tuesday, and students have until the following Tuesday to return it for correction. It would also be great to see students bring their reading folders in on this day so teachers can check in on their nightly reading progress.
Please note that Library Day has changed this term and will now take place on Mondays.
Hope you all have a great weekend
Alison, Fiona, Michelle, and Penni.
